2005, Friday Qualifying
Circuit: 4,265 km., Weather: Dry, mostly sunny 22-28C

TROY SECOND BY A WHISKER

Troy ended the first day of qualifying at the EurosSpeedway Lausitzring second
quickest - a mere fraction of a second behind Chris vermeulen (Honda). Troy had
been the fastest rider in this afternoon’s timed session until just a couple of
minutes from the end, when Vermeulen put in a flyer to knock Troy off
provisional pole position. In the end Troy finished just two tenths of a second
behind his fellow countryman, but was happy with today’s two sessions. Third
quickest today is Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha), with Ducati rider Lorenzo Lanzi
(standing in for the injured Regis Laconi) fourth. Troy’s team mate Yukio
Kagayama ended 14th fastest, but less then a second behind.

TROY - 2nd, 1:40.092

I’m pretty happy with how the day went considering that I wasn’t really pushing
it at all. In fact I did virtually the same time on my race tyres as I did on my
qualifiers and the times were pretty consistent this afternoon. It took me a
while to learn the track again and the biggest problem I had this morning was
trying to find some braking markers. The track is pretty featureless, so it’s
not that easy picking out braking points, but in the afternoon I found a few and
that made life a bit easier.

In Assen, I think we lost our way a little, but we’ve got back on track here
today and I found myself far more comfortable with the bike. The weather
forecast is for rain, but I hope that doesn’t happen because this track is very
slippery in the wet. There are places where the track is not so wide, so if a
rider crashed in front of you it could be pretty dangerous. It would be better
for all concerned if it stayed dry..
